Black Tie Eclectic Woodland Wedding Winnipeg Canada

With a breath of fresh air and a desire to merge together eclectic worlds, Cody Keith & Kristian Kjell crafted a unique wedding day filled with a mix of upscale black tie meets woodland wedding magic! Set at the rustic Winnipeg Canada St. Norbert Arts Centre, Amanda Douglas Events helped transform their vision into a reality, one that mixed elements of earthy organic goodness with elegant vintage pieces. Old dressers, radios, bottles, antlers and more were were intricately staged around their woodland wedding ceremony locale giving off a haunting beautiful aura. In counter balance to their surroundings, both Cody & Kristian donned black tie savvy Vera Wang, setting the tone for a guest list in a wash of sharp tuxes and floor length gowns. The juxtaposition of organic woodland world meets black tie is a welcome way to express how beautifully tuxedos and ball gowns can transcend their more typical setting. There is a gorgeous pureness to Cody & Kristian’s woodland wedding, one that will sweep you right up into their love story!

Novella of the Bride…

We began our relationship 4 years ago when our best friends were dating. After meeting on Canada Day, we quickly fell for each other. It was as if we were connected from the moment we met. We didn’t even formally date, we were so perfect for each other we were just automatically a couple. Our friend’s relationship didn’t last, but thanks to them we are now happily married with a house and amazing dogs, Sander and Lucy! Kristian is currently working in Executive Administration. As an avid hockey fan he spends his evenings teaching young children how to skate. Cody has her Art History Degree and is currently finishing a Degree in Education. In her spare time, she loves to sketch and works at the Department of Justice Lighthouse Program for at risk youth.

The overall theme of the wedding was Bohemian Woodland. It initially existed in Cody’s imagination as a culmination of all of her favourite things. It was extremely formal, with guests wearing tuxedos and full length gowns. This formality contrasted with the earthy elements like drift wood, moss, succulents and antlers. The woodland elements contrasting with the elegance of black tie created a unique energy. The centre pieces were thin tree branches with lots of height. Moss and plants clung to the branches as keys and clocks hung suspended below. There were many elements of the wedding that played into this same feeling. Cody’s dress was Vera Wang and was both interesting, classy and organic. The intricate details of the elegant Bohemian Woodland theme reflected the duality of Cody and Kristian’s qualities and interests. The special touches in the decorative elements created a special mystical aura that goes unrivaled. Cody and Kristian wanted positive energy and love in the air. They had a private cake cutting and lots of photos from the amazing Bond Freyer. The entire event amazing!

It was easy to decide on a reception venue. The class of the Manitoba Club was perfect for the black tie event and Cody’s family are long time members. However, it took us an extremely long time to decide on a ceremony venue. After touring many spaces and pressing the deadline, we came across the Saint Norbert Arts Centre. We decided to go explore the area, where we were greeted by the kind and eccentric care taker. He informed us that the centre was in transition and likely would not be available in May. Despite this warning, our hearts said we had to be married in the space! The entire grounds had an energy that is truly indescribable. The trees, even in early May, sung with a positive and spiritual energy that made us feel so close to each other and to nature. Thankfully, the caretaker fought for us and we were married along the river bank beneath an arch of trees.

A Little Help From Their Friends ~ Cody’s mother Cheryl Vernon was the maid of honor. She helped in so many ways! Our wedding party was also amazing. Jordan Stephensen, an up and coming graphic designer, created and designed our beautiful art deco gold foil invitations. Jordan also painted the tree used as the guest book. Cody’s father, artist Doug Keith, also helped by creating the beautiful seating chart and lending decorative items. Kristian’s parents and sister also gave incredible support that helped us plan for and execute our amazing day. In all, everyone was incredible. We are so lucky to have the support of our family and friends!

Favorite Moments ~ As the wedding approached, there was a lot of talk about the reception. While this is an important part to celebrating with family and friends, our favourite moment was our vows. The ceremony was truly magical. We were surrounded by so much love, both from our supporters and from each other. Looking into your soul mate’s eyes and professing your love to one another is a once in a life time thing.
