“The whole wedding managed to feel at once like the greatest, most important party we had ever been to and just another summer barbecue with our family and best friends.” This incredibly wonderful statement struck me with such truism when I read the start of what Alexa had to say. To be able to slow the day down, take in each special moment, and be able to revel in it is the true beauty behind the wedding day. Alexa and Jon’s private residence Hudson Valley backyard wedding is one filled of sentimental detailing. Married at Alexa’s family home, the couple shared their I do’s in a truly special place, in front of a tiny chapel her great-grandfather built for his wife in the woods behind their home. Flower arrangements included pink and white peonies from Alexa’s father’s garden, which her mother hand picked the month prior, wrapping in newspaper and storing in a refrigerator until a week before the wedding! Escort cards were equally sentimental, a collection of flat stones from around the couple’s favorite beaches on Block Island, where Jon proposed to Alexa, with guests’ names painted on them. Guests of the backyard wedding were treated to a raw bar, a roast pig and New Zealand lamb, which was a nod to the groom’s Kiwi heritage. Even Alexa’s approach to her wedding dress was met with equal care, choosing a gown for their backyard wedding that was down right perfect, something festive and special yet comfortable and flowing enough to endure a walk through some woods and across a long lawn. When it comes to Hudson Valley weddings, when you have the opportunity to take advantage of the utterly incredible landscape, a backyard wedding met with such care and detail is the only way to go!
