Metropolitan weddings can easily be some of the most fantastic as you’re surrounded in a metropolis filled environment with unique and diverse sub-worlds all around you.  Kayla Broadway knew the moment she visited St. Louis’s NEO on Locust  that it had the perfect loft like feel for her shabby chic vintage wedding to Jordan McGaughey.  The loft space was filled with old school detailing from chicken wire hung antique key escort cards to picture frame highlighted centerpieces of taper candle dripping candelabras and mixed bottle blooms.  For the perfect juxtaposition of a modern urban world, Kayla & Jordan selected the enchanting UMSL Provincial House Chapel filled of marble, vaulted ceilings & old church opulence for their ceremony, resulting a dreamy mix of current day meets rich tradition & beauty.  St. Louis wedding photographer For the Moment Photography captured each little detail of their St. Louis vintage wedding, not only the shabby chic wedding decor but the little environmental details that crafted the world around them.  Its a joy when wedding photographers snap photos of the small details surrounding the couple, as it really truly does help to paint that complete and beautiful picture that was their day!

Novella of the Bride…

We met through mutual friends at a Fourth of July party in 2011.  Once we met, we immediately hit it off.  We began dating a few weeks later, and it wasn’t long before we fell in love with each other.  We quickly began spending every moment we could with each other.  Whether it was taking our dog for walks through Forest Park, going to Cardinals games, trying new restaurants around St. Louis, or simply staying in with each other and watching our favorite shows on Netflix, we soon discovered that we loved every minute of being with one another and couldn’t imagine our lives without each other.   As our love deepened, we soon began talking about the idea of spending the rest of our lives together.  Almost a year and a half after we began dating, during our second Valentine’s Day together, Jordan proposed to me in front of the Grand Basin in Forest Park, the place that we now know as “our spot”.

My overall look I was going for was a shabby chic/vintage feel. I didn’t want everything to look exactly perfect and uniform, I really wanted the character to show. I wanted everything to be very soft and romantic and incorporate a lot of lace. Each one of our centerpieces was eclectic and unique.  Almost everything was found at flea markets and antique shops. We added our own special touches to alot of the pieces to fix them up. We borrowed alot of the lace pieces from family and friends. We incorporated wild flowers from my friends garden. For our dinner music, my husband put together a list of songs that we love as a couple (that are not traditional wedding songs) and played them in a string quartet version. Our favor for our guests was an antique key bottle opener. Each key had a guest’s name and that was also how they were able to find their seat for dinner. We didn’t want a traditional wedding ceremony with the typical vows and nothing personalized for us. My best friend’s husband was our officiant and he created a very personal ceremony for us that was so special and memorable.

We chose UMSL Provincial House Chapel for our wedding ceremony for several reasons. It’s beautiful architecture, white marble floors, the historic feel, and the beautiful courtyard entrance made it impossible to envision getting married anywhere else. The chapel had everything we had wanted in a ceremony venue. They were extremly accomodating and helpful with keeping things moving smoothly throughout the day. NEO on Locust was the perfect place for our reception. I had been to a wedding reception there before, and I instantly knew that this was exactly what I had envisioned for our day.  The loft atmosphere, floor length windows that flooded the room with natural light, brick walls, and exposed piping made me die and go to wedding heaven! NEO also allowed us access to their roof top for some great photos with the Arch in the background and all of bright city lights.

Favorite Moments ~ Looking back on our wedding day, there are so many moments that were amazing and memorable.  From seeing our dream wedding come to life before our very eyes to being surrounded by our closest friends and family, the whole day in and of itself is a memory that both of us will cherish forever.  The one moment that was the most memorable; however, came during one of the first moments that Jordan and I were able to share, just the two of us, as husband and wife.  After our bridal party went to the buffet table to get their food, Jordan and I sat together at our head table and shared a moment where we looked out at our beautiful reception, and at our friends and family who had come to celebrate our special day.  When we did that, we were able to really take in our wedding for the first time, and we talked about just how lucky we truly were to have each other and to have the people that we have in our lives.  In a day full of memorable moments, that moment was absolutely my favorite.
