Sometimes heading home, is the move that fits best. Such was the case for current Austin Texas residents Monica Cicciarelli & Eric Soelzer who opted to turn back to Pensacola where everything began!  Armed with a strong desire to be married a la fresco, Monica & Eric found The Barkley House which highlights a gorgeous outdoor lawn, views of the bay & gently moving gulf breezes, perfection!  Family & friends handily pitched in with all aspects of the wedding, everything from music to flowers which were done by the bride’s aunt!  Stunning wildflower like blooms graced the event while personal touches like the cake topper, travel map & seating chart were handled by Monica personally.  The result is a sweetly eclectic early summer fete in soft mint green celebrating all the beauty that love & nature share!

Novella of the Bride…

We live in Austin, Texas. I teach mathematics at St. Edward’s University and Eric works at a software start-up. We met ten years ago in the Pensacola area when we were both in high school. We parted ways more than once throughout the ten years, but were brought back together for good in 2008. Eric was living in Austin and it wasn’t hard to convince me to move here. We are in love with the city.

My biggest request was to have a ceremony and reception outdoors.  Pensacola is special to us because it’s where we met and where a lot of our family still lives. The Barkley House had a huge outdoor lawn with a beautiful view of the bay. The breeze on location felt like home and we couldn’t have found a better spot to catch the sunset. It’s also located three miles from the house Eric grew up in. We had planned to get married sometime in June and when we realized June 1 was available at the Barkley House, we booked it immediately knowing how special it would be to get married on my parent’s 40th wedding anniversary.

We kept decorations simple and clean, and the venue allowed for a breezy evening by the bay. Our biggest stress the week before the wedding was the weather; all week it was calling for a 40% chance of thunderstorms on the wedding day. We missed the deadline to book an outdoor tent, so all we could do the week prior was hope for no rain. We had some showers in the morning followed by nothing but beautiful clouds and sun for the rest of the day!  I made a lot of personal touches for the wedding including our cake toppers, bar signs, and a map for guests to pin where they came from. Bridesmaids were asked to choose a dress that they would wear again that was something close to mint green.

We are so thankful for all the help we received from family and friends. In particular: Robin Conner Moye, my aunt, did all the flowers for the wedding. My grandmother’s house was vacant, so we turned it into a florist shop for my aunt. She worked nonstop for days on the flowers. The house had to be kept so cold that she ended up with bad sinus congestion by the end of the week! I was blown away when I first saw the bouquets (I’m pretty sure I started crying.) Tana Conner, Monica’s cousin and maid of honor, took off work the entire week before the wedding and stayed by my side to help and keep her sane. Jake Brown, a groomsman for the wedding, was our DJ. He pulled off more jobs at the wedding than anyone else: groomsman, DJ, and dad of a baby and young girl that were also present. He can’t be thanked enough for the perfect wedding music and personalized details he brought throughout the night. We are completely humbled by the generosity of these three people, along with our parents.

Favorite Moments~
Eric: Exchanging personal vows and having my father marry us. Monica: Walking down the isle to Sigur Ros “Staralfur” with my father. I also remember wanting to pinch myself when we were sitting down for dinner at dusk with a gorgeous sky and pelicans flying above us.
