Nestled lakeside, Katie & Axel found the perfect locale for their British Columbia wedding in the vintage halls of The Eldorado Hotel.  With a deep love for the Victorian era, Katie carefully crafted their wedding day with non-negotiable details that sweetly echoed back to a time long ago.  The venue itself, a hermitage hotel, with its original wood flooring and floor to ceiling, nearly panoramic windows was the perfect setting, however it was details like swaying chandeliers and elements in gold & sequins that caught the light and really made things shine.  With a soft feminine palette in a wash of pink hues, blooms & dresses gently fluttered in the wind during Katie & Axel’s rooftop ceremony punctuated with details like greenery filled birdcages & vintage furniture pieces.  Equally unique was the couple’s dessert bar draped in chevron sequin fabric hosting a bevy of intriguing and thoughtful desserts, each a standout in front of their gold frame backdrop.  British Columbia wedding photographer Stefania Bowler Photography  did a gorgeous job of detailing the day, with an easy favorite being the poolside portrait session in such a dramatically cool locale!  Katie & Axel’s blend of vintage come modern day wedding is a refined look at an old world way.

Novella of the Bride…

I am girly, a bit of a plane jane but with a passion for classic romance.  If you asked my family this question they would say I was born in the wrong era.  My ultimate dream would be to live through either the 1920’s-1930’s, either era would do.  Mostly for the classic look; the fashion and ultimate cocktail style, the sequence; these woman seemed to have exactly what I wanted especially incorporated in my wedding day. Although my dress, hair and over theme was not tailored to either of these eras (mostly because my husband would have never gone for it) it was an inspiration to the overall theme of my 2014 era wedding. My relationship started in highschool, yes we are highschool sweethearts. My husband is 3 years older than me. When he graduated he moved cities, our relationship sort of took a break until my graduating year where we rekindled our relationship, moved to Kelowna, BC and never looked back. We are both stubborn as ever, find most of the same things funny and enjoy each others company. My sister always says Axel is the ying to my yang…no one else could handle me. We dated all in all for 10 years prior to our engagement and hope to have many more years of happily ever after ahead of us.

Our wedding was definitely more of a romantic themed wedding. I wanted to make sure there was a pop of gold sequence somewhere within the venue, tying in a little classic old hollywood style.  I needed soft lighting everywhere. The more twinkle the better, and I was very specific about this. I also needed without compromise a chandelier placed somewhere. It was a must. Some special touches I thought was our back drop for our cake and candy table, our amazing table clothes, charger plates and garland display. Something so simple changed the look and feel of the whole venue. It went from ‘beautiful’ to ‘oh wow!’ It was truly incredible.

I chose the Hotel Eldorado because of it’s location, the close proximity to the lake and it’s ultimate vintage style.  This heritage hotel has such amazing character, the old original wood floors, the floor to ceiling, nearly panoramic windows in the great room where we celebrated our reception, I mean it was a no brainer. Our ceremony was on the roof top of the hotel, which had just recently been remodelled and it was incredible. The view of the lake, the space, the privacy from all the other guests staying at the hotel made it so special and the suite we requested to get ready in and Axel and I to retreat to after the reception was like a dream apartment. Like a vintage apartment in Paris. I could not have asked for much more.

A Little Help From Their Friends ~ My mom made our wedding cake which I think turned out absolutely incredible. It was beautiful and delicious. My mom also helped arrange our centerpieces. They were very simple flowers but just enough not to out shine our amazing table settings.  They were displayed all over the hotel the following day, it was awesome!

Favorite Moments ~ My most favourite moment for sure was the last song of the night. Almost all the guests still standing gathered in a huge circle, all of our arms locks, in one big hug singing to “Wonderwall” by Oasis.  I walked down the aisle to this song but covered by Ryan Adams. It was the perfect end to a perfect night.  A close second would be the father daughter dance. There is just something about dancing with your dad that is indescribable and unforgettable, a memory that will last forever.
