This styled shoot is a dreamy way of mixing luxe, natural elements with the industrial qualities of New York City. The Brooklyn Atelier and Coco Jourdana Photography juxtaposed soft, luxurious elements like the teal velvet table linen and lush florals with the eclectic, urban loft space. To throw in a vintage element, a clawfoot tub was the focal point in a couple of playful shots. The motivation behind this shoot was to represent a stylish yet budget-conscious couple who would want to find a way to mesh their desire for an ultra-chic wedding with a desire to take a practical approach to the day. Rather than spending loads on rentals for the day, they wanted to find items that they could use for their elopement and keep afterwards. With plates and flatware from West Elm and wine goblets and decor from Anthropologie, they found items that would seamlessly transition from the couple’s big day to their new life together in their NYC apartment. The bride wore two Les Aimants dresses for the day. One with a more demure look for the vow exchange and bridal portraits and a second for a fun, flirty option – perfect for hopping into the clawfoot tub with her new groom and laughing the night away with the lights of the city behind them!

What was your design inspiration?

I drew inspiration from New York City’s Greenwich Village where unexpected lush garden dining spaces, treelined streets, and old architecture are set against the industrial backdrop of the NYC everyone always thinks of when they imagine this city. I dreamed of a quirky couple looking for an intimate city elopement, where they could juxtapose their own edgy qualities with lush and luxurious touches. As an added touch, I wanted to include as many items as possible that a couple could purchase for their wedding day and then work into their newlywed life, to take a practical approach to wedding budgeting.

Describe your flowers.

Our flowers were lush and imperfect. We wanted to have soft, seasonal blooms that would compliment the tones in the plates and contrast beautifully against our teal velvet linens. Additionally, we wanted the flowers to be a wild, natural element to bring the city space down to earth.

Describe your cake.

Our cake was a natural, autumnal spice cake that was a semi-naked cake with gilded fruit and sides. We also had delicious cream cheese pavlovas with autumnal berries.

Tell us about your attire choices.

We wanted to honor this couple’s quirky, outside-the-box style and choose looks that were classic without being stuffy. The Brooklyn couple had to let their personalities shine through!

Describe the tablescape elements.

Modern, abstract plates and flatware were paired with more classic, luxurious linens, napkins, and florals, once again playing off the juxtaposition of hard and soft, natural and man-made, old and new.
