Romantic Winery Wedding in Oregon

When your wedding is happening at Oswego Hills Vineyard & Winery, even a forecast of rain won’t put a damper on anything. Cindy from Peachy Keen Coordination said that vendors and guests alike were battling Mother Nature and her unpredictability, but like it quite often happens, the heavens parted right before Jessica and Roger’s ceremony and the downpour held off long enough for them to make their lifelong commitment before their family and friends.

Thankfully, Jessica and Roger’s guests were ushered into an indoor reception, with sophisticated rectangular tables and–according to Jessica–an herb garden with resplendent greenery installations by Good Seed Floral Design on anything that stood still. Jessica and Roger wanted a day emphasizing each other and making great memories in the midst of a beautiful backdrop and good food and wine flowing. Without a doubt, from the looks of Hazelwood Photo’s snaps, they definitely succeeded.

How did you meet?

Roger and I met through the work of a very persistent friend of mine who knew Roger through her husband. Took her six months to convince him to meet me as he thought he would be a bachelor the rest of his life. He finally decided to reach out and we talked for hours on the phone and met shortly after that and have been together ever since.

What is your proposal story?

Roger actually recruited the help of our friends 11 year old daughter who had been pestering him about when he was going to ask. They put together this idea of a holiday ornament exchange. Each of us picked someone within the group to exchange an ornament.

While at the holiday party Roger was getting very anxious to do the exchange and I couldn’t figure out why. Our friend’s daughter had me and when I opened it, it was a beautiful cold Cinderella carriage. I was admiring it when the daughter started screaming that it opens. So I opened the carriage and inside was the engagement ring. I looked over to find Roger who was on one knee proposing. I didn’t even let him get out the proposal before I stated saying yes yes yes.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

The most important thing while we planned the wedding was making sure we got as much time with our friends and family as possible. Not only were we starting this chapter in our lives we also looked at it as a going away party as Roger had had an incredible job opportunity come up and we were moving four days after the wedding.

We also didn’t want to do things at the wedding because it was expected. We picked the things that were important to us and didn’t worry about incorporating everything that was expected because it wouldn’t have been us.

We splurged on food. Even to this day people are talking about how good the food was. 🙂

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Remove all of the outside noise from the process. It’s not about anyone but the two of you. And have FUN! It should be a party a celebration not a stressful day that the two of you don’t remember because you were too busy pleasing everyone else.

Also, if you cant afford a wedding coordinator at least see about having one for the day. It was such a help for us to not have to worry about coordinating the vendors, final payments and corralling people for pictures etc.
