Novella of the Bride…

Wedding Buzzwords ~ Rustic, Adventure, Organic, Grassroots, Simplistic Elegance, & Travel

Tanaya was born in Lafayette, Louisiana but grew up in Houston, TX. Tanaya is a free spirit who loves the beauty of nature, connecting with people, and getting the most out of her time on Earth. She currently works at Texas Instruments as a Demand Analyst/Business Planner.  Jason was born in Carrolton, Texas. He is an avid Do-It-Yourselfer who loves soccer, biking, and The Great Outdoors. Jason currently works at Dannenbaum Engineering as a Civil Engineer.

We met in February of 2009 at a Dallas A&M Club Happy Hour. After being in awe of my beauty and charming wit, Jason couldn’t help but ask for my number. Intrigued by his care-free attitude and handsome looks, I complied. Kindred spirits, we found themselves constantly drawn together and soon became inseparable. The rest..as you all know… is history!

Our overall theme was “Life is an adventure, Love is a journey..Let the journey begin!”  Jason and I love to travel and are known as the traveling couple so I thought it would be perfectly fitting to have a travel themed wedding. I absolutely love maps and globes and decided to center all of the decoratations around that. Our venue was very quaint and cozy with a rustic, natural vintage appeal. This was perfect as I wanted to use “Old world” style maps and globes in our decor. Burlap and lace was the base of our centerpieces. Burlap and lace table runners made by myself, the groom, and my sisters. We also had matching burlap and lace flatware holders purchased from Etsy. Suitcases were also essential to our theme. Decorative luggage boxes and cartography books laid the foundation for our guest table centerpeices.

Flowers – Neutral with a pop of color – Due to the fact that I was going for a neutral color pallet, I realized I needed some pops of color to offset the earth tones. I called my florist up and told her we needed some color, perhaps bright pink. She did a fantastic job with the flowers and I am still getting compliments to this day about how pretty they were.  Globe Guestbook – To set the stage for the travel theme, I wanted our Guestbook to be an antique globe. This was so fun! We display the globe in our livingroom and it reminds me of how spectacular our day was.

“Choose Our Next Adventure” – As a fun activity for our guests, I got a large old world map and used white push pins to mark the places where Jason and I had already been. We then asked guests to “Choose Our Next Adventure” by pinning an area on the map where they’d like us to visit next. We got all sorts of places ranging anywhere from Africa to the middle of the Antarctic Ocean!  “Choose Your Next Adventure” – As wedding favors, we printed up small antique map magnets of the world and encouraged the guests to choose their next adventure by looking at the map and deciding where their next vacation would be.

Cake Tables – In keeping with the travel theme, I felt it imperative to use suitcases for my cake stand. Ebay came through for me! I purchased a light blue vinatage suitcase and it was perfect for my cake stand. I couldnt find one in time for the grooms cake so decided to use a burlap and lace cake stand and it came out perfect!

A Little Help From Their Friends ~

My husband, sisters and friends provided great emotional support! There were times where I was stressed out about the decorations and making sure everying turned out how I pictured in my head.  My sisters and husband helped to create all of the 15 guest table runners. My sisters also helped decorate some of the bud vases and gift card box. They also helped me to brainstorm the guest table centerpiece layouts and helped with setup. Of course my bridesmaids were a great help with setup and cleanup and keeping me sane the day of!

Bride’s Favorite Moment: “My favorite moment was when I realized how everything came perfectly together. I had been stressed out about how all of the décor would look and if it would all merge together. It ended up being better than I  could have imagined! Other than that, I think the entire day was my favorite moment! It was all so fun and everyone had a great time! :)”
